James and Miles had fun climbing on all the kid stuff they had at SeaWorld's new attraction: Sesame street bay of play. He wasn't tall enough for the little rides but had a blast on the things he was big enough for. He seems to be a little daredevil. Didn't mind the heights.
Miles was a little scared when we got close to them, but Bert and Ernie were really cute and made him feel better in time for the picture. Since they can't talk, they made kissing noises and that made Miles smile.
Poor Miles. We were excited to take him to the Shamu show "Believe" at SeaWorld. He started with his worried look before the whales came out. Once the show started he started to cry. Maybe he thought the big whales were eating the people? We had to leave the show early. But James and I loved what we got to see. Hopefully we can see more the next time we go.
Miles loves to file his nails. Another testament to his observance abilities. One day he got his hands on my nail file and instead of sticking it in his mouth, which I thought he would do, he rubbed his finger nail against it.
Here we are in the car on our ride from D.C. to Philadelphia. I pulled out the nail file to fix my nail and naturally I had to hand the file over. Miles had some filing of his own to do.
James thought it would be ok for Miles to run around naked for a while to give him a break from wearing diapers. I was nervous the whole time. Of course all the worrying was for nothing.
Wendi is a great friend I was roommates with at Weber State.
She is now married and lives in Alexandria, VA. We were lucky enough to stay with her and her family. (Darin, her husband. was at work when we took these photos) Here's Wendi, Landon, Spencer and Jordan. We had so much fun staying with them and Miles really enjoyed playing with the kids and all the fun toys they have. Thanks guys for the great memories!
With the rain we couldn't do much outside. Wendi told us about the shopping mall close to her house with the best playland we've ever seen. Miles loved it, and so did the 200 other kids that were there! Ok, there were'nt 200 but there were several rascally kids that were not very observant of the little ones. Miles did get knocked over once because I couldn't get to him in time to stop the kid that was headed straight for him. He didn't seem to mind, he was having too much fun. We actually went back a second time and that was earlier in the day so there were fewer kids and that made it a little more pleasant.
This is a Donkey in the food court at the Ronald Regan Building where we ate lunch. Miles ran to it and it's neighbor the Elephant. He was so excited to see something so cool. I knew if something as small as this would excited him, he'd love the museum we were haded to next and I wasn't disapointed. He loved everything. Look, he's as tall as a dinosaur's knee! He and dad are checking out the big sea turtle and the little skeletons of frogs. That's a recreation of a termite hill he's running through.
Miles on his dad's shoulders doing his classic "I have to hold your elbows" pose. Josephine with Emma and Edwin. Miles and Edwin checking out the tv...etc.
This is the first time we've had so many Dzineku's together at once in the USA. Moses, James' younger brother and Johnny, James' sister Josephine's husband have been in D.C. in the MBA program at Howard. Michael, James' senior brother, his wife Ryta and their daughters Rikki (6) and Ashley (4) are in Philadelphia where Mike is in Wharton's MBA program. Josephine brought her kids Emma (3) and Edwin (2) and Dorothy from Ghana for Johnny's graduation. We all drove up to Philadelphia to see Mike's family and the kids had a great time playing together.
The weather in D.C. was terrible, but we lucked out on Saturday with light rain so we headed to the Mall area. Miles and I rode the carousel. At the fountain Miles was able to pet a duck! He tried to jump in the fountain a few times. You can see James pulling him away in one of the photos.
We had a nice plane ride to D.C. James introduced Miles to earphones which he seemed to enjoy. He's also enjoying a nap on the plane. Look at that belly!
Miles loves to be outside. If he had it his way, he'd be outside all day everyday. We both have lovely farmer tans, and it's the begining of May! Here are some pictures I took with my cell phone of Miles.
5/3/08 We drove to Ventura Beach for some fun. It was really cold and windy by the water but we found a spot that was warm among the sand hills. Of course Miles loved playing in the sand and picking flowers. We all laughed when Miles tried to keep his balance while running in the sand. He loved falling and most of his falls were on purpose. He also enjoyed watching the birds and pointed to the sky when ever he saw one fly by.
What ever you do, don't close the fridge when you're done getting something out! Because Miles is already inside the door! He loves to pull things out and play with the drawers. If any of his toys are missing, they are likely hiding in the fridge.
Miles loves his first tricycle. We push him around now but it won't be long before he can reach the pedals (which he tries very hard to do). This was a gift from James' sister Pauline. Thank you so much!!
Digital cameras are great for moms because you can take all the shots you want and delete the ones that don't turn out. Too bad for Miles, because I pull the camera out just for fun. He smiled for me, but really, he wanted to play with the camera instead of being the subject.
One day at church Miles was extra rambuncious so I took him outside to enjoy the sun and I may have picked a flower for him to play with. Ever since, he loves to pick flowers! We try to get him to pick the dandilions, but they aren't as appealing as flowers he shouldn't pick. Here's Miles in our back yard sporting his hat and holding a recently picked flower. He looked so cute I had James grab the camera. Of course, Miles wouldn't hold still, but I think we still got some good shots. How do you like the dead grass?
Miles watched as I took something out of the oven to see if it was done and then put it back in. Right away he grabbed the oven mit, put it on like I did and then proceeded to try and open the oven like I did. Luckily the oven is hard to open! I am aways amazed when he does something like this, copy what I do. He's very observant or so bored that there is nothing better to do than watch mom!
